The ASPS Trustees have long recognized the importance of mentoring in the development of plastic surgeons. The Trustees are delighted to welcome Dr. Neligan who will share his insights on the importance of innovation and collaboration through his talk, “Protecting the Future of Plastic Surgery.”

About Dr. Neligan
Dr. Neligan graduated from medical school in Dublin in 1975. He trained in General Surgery and Plastic Surgery in Ireland, completing fellowships in research, pediatric plastic surgery, microvascular surgery and burn surgery at the University of Toronto. He became Chair of the University of Toronto Division of Plastic Surgery in 1996 and Wharton Chair in Reconstructive Plastic Surgery in 1999.
Recruited in 2007 to the University of Washington in Seattle, he was Director of the Center for Reconstructive Surgery. He retired as Professor Emeritus in 2021.
Neligan's interests include microvascular surgery, facial paralysis, and lymphatic surgery. His publications include 15 books, 108 book chapters and 217 peer-reviewed papers. He is Editor-in-Chief of the 6 Volume Plastic Surgery, which has become the standard text for Training Programs around the world. With Drs Jaume Masia and JP Hong he is co-director of the International Master’s degree in Lymphology by Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB).
Dr. Neligan has committed to furthering the plastic surgery specialty by being a Maliniac Fellow through the Plastic Surgery Foundation (PSF). Induction into the Maliniac Circle demonstrates a sincere belief in and enthusiasm for the pioneering research pursued by The PSF.
