Incorporating Weight Management Into Your Plastic Surgery Practice Thu, Oct 15 3:30-4:30 p.m. CDT

This session explores how plastic surgeons can effectively integrate weight management strategies into a contemporary body contouring practice. Faculty will examine the impact of medical weight loss therapies, including glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists, on surgical candidacy, aesthetic outcomes, and patient expectations. Key topics will include optimal timing of surgical intervention relative to weight stabilization, perioperative considerations for patients undergoing pharmacologic weight management, and interdisciplinary collaboration with bariatric and medical specialists. Practical models for incorporating comprehensive weight management consultation into surgical workflows will also be discussed to support holistic, patient-centered care.

Upon completion of this learning activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Analyze the effects of medical weight loss therapies on body contouring candidacy and surgical outcomes.

  2. Evaluate optimal timing for surgical intervention in relation to weight stabilization and treatment course.

  3. Apply perioperative management strategies for patients undergoing pharmacologic weight management.

  4. Integrate collaborative care models with bariatric and medical specialists to support comprehensive patient management.

  5. Assess practice-based approaches for incorporating weight management services into plastic surgery workflows.
