Lipedema - Awareness, State of Research, Protocols, and Outcomes Thu, Oct 15 5:00-6:00 p.m. CDT

This panel will examine lipedema as a chronic and often underdiagnosed adipose disorder, focusing on clinical recognition, pathophysiology, and current management strategies. Panelists will share multidisciplinary perspectives and patient-centered insights to address diagnostic challenges, treatment options, and the physical and psychosocial impact of lipedema, while highlighting gaps in care, research priorities, and opportunities to improve awareness and outcomes.

Upon completion of this learning activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Define pathophysiology of lipedema and distinguish it from other conditions such as lymphedema, obesity, and other adipose disorders.

  2. Recognize common signs, symptoms, and stages of lipedema to facilitate earlier recognition and accurate diagnosis

  3. Understand current theories of pathophysiology including inflammatory, hormonal, and genetic factors

  4. Review evidence-based management strategies including conservative care, lifestyle modifications, and surgical interventions

  5. Highlight the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration
