The Next ALT? Popularizing the SCIP, MSAP, PAP, and Other Fasciocutaneous Flaps Thu, Oct 15 1:30-3:00 p.m. CDT

This panel brings together leading experts in reconstructive plastic surgery to discuss the transition of innovative perforator flaps from specialized, surgeon-specific techniques to widely adopted procedures. Presenters will share their experiences, technical refinements, and outcomes data that have helped transform the superficial circumflex iliac artery perforator (SCIP), medial sural artery perforator (MSAP), profunda artery perforator (PAP), and lumbar artery perforator flaps from niche applications to mainstream reconstructive options. The session will emphasize practical approaches to overcoming learning curves, managing anatomical variations, and optimizing outcomes for surgeons at all experience levels.

Upon completion of this learning activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Learn how to effectively incorporate ultrasound technology into reconstructive surgery by gaining insights into the principles of using ultrasounds for perforator selection, flap design, and lymphatic mapping for lymphovenous anastomosis.

  2. Attendees will acquire proficiency in ultrasound-based techniques for identifying vascular structures, allowing for precise flap planning and enhancing the surgeon's ability to optimize surgical outcomes.

  3. This session aims to equip participants with the knowledge and skills to navigate challenges in reconstructive surgery through ultrasound-guided flap markings, providing a valuable tool for improved patient care.
