Reconstructive Precision: The Transformative Power of Oncoplastic Surgery Saturday, October 11 Sat, Oct 11 8:00-9:30 a.m. CDT
This session highlights the transformative role of oncoplastic surgery in achieving both oncologic safety and aesthetic excellence in breast cancer treatment. Faculty will explore how integrating reconstructive principles into lumpectomy and partial mastectomy enhances contour, symmetry, and patient satisfaction without compromising cancer care. Attendees will learn to assess candidates for oncoplastic approaches based on tumor characteristics, breast anatomy, and individual goals. The session will review key techniques—including volume displacement, tissue rearrangement, and local flaps—along with common challenges, potential complications, and outcome metrics such as margin clearance and long-term aesthetic results.
Upon completion of this learning activity, participants should be able to:
- Understand the principles of oncoplastic surgery and how it integrates with oncologic procedures to optimize both oncologic and aesthetic outcomes.
- Identify appropriate patient selection criteria for oncoplastic breast reconstruction, including tumor location, breast size, and patient preferences.
- Explore core oncoplastic surgical techniques such as volume displacement, tissue rearrangement, and local flap utilization.
- Assess complications and outcomes of oncoplastic surgery, including margin status, cosmetic results, and long-term patient satisfaction.
