Body Contouring Opportunities in the Breast Reconstruction Patient Population Sat, Oct 17 5:00-6:00 p.m. CDT

This session explores the opportunity for plastic surgeons to address comprehensive aesthetic goals within the breast reconstruction patient population. Faculty will examine common secondary contour concerns, including abdominal donor-site deformities following autologous flap procedures, back contour irregularities, and upper body changes associated with mastectomy and lymphedema. Discussion will focus on integrating adjunctive procedures such as liposuction, fat grafting, abdominoplasty, and implant-based contouring into the reconstructive continuum of care. Emphasis will be placed on patient selection, procedural timing and staging, and adopting a holistic, patient-centered approach to optimize both reconstructive and aesthetic outcomes.

Upon completion of this learning activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Analyze common body contour deformities encountered in patients undergoing breast reconstruction.

  2. Evaluate the role of adjunctive body contouring procedures in enhancing reconstructive and aesthetic outcomes.

  3. Apply principles of timing and staging when incorporating body contouring into the reconstructive care continuum.

  4. Assess patient selection criteria for combined reconstructive and aesthetic interventions.

  5. Integrate a holistic, patient-centered approach to address whole-body aesthetic goals in breast reconstruction patients.
