The demands of surgical training and practice often intersect with decisions about fertility and family planning. This session addresses the unique challenges surgeons face when navigating reproductive health, pregnancy, and parenthood while maintaining professional momentum. Through evidence-based discussion and personal perspectives, attendees will explore fertility preservation options, career timing considerations, institutional policies, and strategies for building supportive practice environments that allow surgeons to thrive both personally and professionally.
Upon completion of this learning activity, participants should be able to:
Describe fertility and family planning considerations unique to surgeons at different career stages
Review current options for fertility preservation and assisted reproductive technologies
Understand the impact of training structure, practice demands, and institutional policies on family planning decisions
