Patients with disproportionate pain, prolonged disability, or psychosocial stressors can be among the most challenging in hand surgery practice. This session addresses the evaluation and management of complex postoperative and post-injury scenarios, including workman's compensation, complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), and concerns for secondary gain.
Faculty will discuss diagnostic frameworks, communication strategies, and multidisciplinary management approaches.
Upon completion of this learning activity, participants should be able to:
Differentiate common surgical complications from CRPS and non-organic pain.
Apply diagnostic criteria for CRPS in hand and wrist conditions.
Implement communication strategies for challenging patient interactions.
Utilize multidisciplinary approaches to optimize patient care.
