Soft tissue defects of the hand can be reconstructed using a variety of local, regional, and free tissue options. This session highlights differing expert viewpoints on flap selection, timing, and technique, emphasizing that multiple successful solutions often exist.

Case-based discussions will explore decision-making tradeoffs and surgeon preference.

Upon completion of this learning activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Identify reconstructive options for common hand soft tissue defects.

  2. Compare advantages and limitations of local, regional, and free flaps.

  3. Apply patient and defect-specific factors to flap selection.

  4. Recognize principles that optimize functional and aesthetic outcomes.
