Awake Breast Surgical Experience Sun, Oct 12 1:30-3:30 p.m. CDT

Unfiltered. Unedited. Unmissable.

Cap off your PSTM25 experience with a one-of-a-kind session that takes surgical education to the next level. In this high-impact closeout event, you’ll get a front-row seat to a complete, pre-recorded awake breast surgery including reduction and augmentation. Meegan Gruber, MD, PhD will guide attendees through key surgical techniques for breast reduction, augmentation, and, when applicable, capsulectomy—all performed under local anesthesia. Emphasis will be placed on intraoperative strategies, patient selection, anesthetic protocols, and outcomes specific to awake surgery. Through this case-based narration, attendees will gain insight into technical nuances and decision-making processes unique to this approach. The session is designed for plastic surgeons seeking to expand their repertoire in minimally anesthetized operative techniques.

Upon completion of this learning activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the key surgical steps involved in awake breast reduction, augmentation, and capsulectomy procedures.
  2. Evaluate criteria for patient selection and anesthetic management in awake breast surgery.
  3. Analyze intraoperative strategies and techniques used to optimize outcomes and patient safety in the absence of general anesthesia.
  4. Compare awake breast surgery with traditional approaches in terms of recovery profiles, complication risks, and resource utilization.
