Trouble Spots: Strategies for Managing and Preventing Body Surgery Complications Sat, Oct 11 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. CDT

Despite advances in technique and technology, complications remain an inherent risk in aesthetic body surgery. Prompt recognition and effective management are critical to maintaining patient safety, preserving outcomes, and minimizing medicolegal exposure. This session will provide a comprehensive review of common and high-risk complications associated with procedures such as liposuction, abdominoplasty, gluteal augmentation, and body lifts. Expert faculty will share evidence-based protocols, preventive strategies, and practical insights into managing adverse events ranging from seromas and wound dehiscence to fat embolism and venous thromboembolism.

Upon completion of this learning activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Identify common complications associated with major aesthetic body contouring procedures and recognize early warning signs.
  2. Apply evidence-based protocols for the prevention, diagnosis, and management of postoperative complications, including systemic and site-specific issues.
  3. Develop strategies for effective communication with patients during adverse events to support transparency, trust, and informed decision-making.
