Achieving Top Marks in Adult Top Gender Surgery Saturday, October 11 Sat, Oct 11 5:00-6:00 p.m. CDT
This session provides a foundational overview of adult gender-affirming top surgery, with an emphasis on surgical techniques, psychosocial considerations, and strategies to enhance equitable access to care. Faculty will outline the key procedural differences among double incision, periareolar, and keyhole techniques, and review medical best practices for pre-operative assessment, post-operative care, and recovery. The session will highlight the significant psychological and quality-of-life improvements reported by transgender and non-binary patients following top surgery. Additional focus will be given to cultural competency, disparities in access, and ways to deliver affirming, inclusive care across diverse patient populations. Attendees will gain essential knowledge to support respectful, effective, and patient-centered surgical practice.
Upon completion of this learning activity, participants should be able to:
- Differentiate between various types of gender-affirming top surgery, including double incision, periareolar, and keyhole techniques.
