iSurgeon: The Future of Robotic Plastic Surgery in DIEP, Lat, and Beyond Thu, Oct 9 5:00-6:00 p.m. CDT

Robotic-assisted surgery is rapidly expanding the boundaries of reconstructive breast surgery, offering enhanced precision, reduced morbidity, and new opportunities for complex flap procedures. This session will explore the evolving role of robotics in autologous and implant-based reconstruction, with a focus on DIEP and latissimus dorsi flaps. Faculty will discuss patient selection criteria, surgical planning, and the integration of robotic technology in flap harvest and inset techniques. The session will also examine the limitations and technical challenges of robotic approaches, along with a review of outcomes data and strategies to overcome the associated learning curve. Attendees will gain a forward-looking perspective on how robotics is reshaping reconstructive practice.

Upon completion of this learning activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Understand the role and benefits of robotic surgery in breast reconstruction, including enhanced precision, minimally invasive access, and improved outcomes.
  2. Identify appropriate patient selection criteria for robotic-assisted breast reconstruction, considering oncologic, anatomical, and procedural factors.
  3. Demonstrate familiarity with key robotic techniques used in breast reconstruction, such as tissue harvest, flap creation, and implant placement.
  4. Assess potential complications, technical challenges, and the learning curve associated with robotic-assisted reconstructive procedures.
