Low Hanging Fruit: Reconstructing The Ptotic Breast Thu, Oct 9 3:30-4:30 p.m. CDT

This session will explore contemporary strategies in reconstructive breast surgery with a focus on the ptotic breast. Emphasizing the anatomical and functional nuances of ptosis, faculty will review the role of tissue laxity, glandular descent, and skin envelope considerations in procedural planning. A comparative analysis of mastopexy, flap-based, and implant-based reconstruction techniques will be presented, with practical insights into selecting the optimal approach for individual patients. Additionally, the session will address patient selection, management of aesthetic expectations, and strategies to mitigate common complications such as asymmetry and scarring. Attendees will gain evidence-informed perspectives to refine their reconstructive outcomes and enhance patient satisfaction.

Upon completion of this learning activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Understand the key anatomical and functional considerations when planning reconstructive surgery for ptotic breasts, including tissue laxity and glandular ptosis.
  2. Explore various surgical techniques for breast reconstruction in ptotic breasts, such as mastopexy, flap procedures, and implant-based reconstruction.
  3. Evaluate patient selection criteria for ptotic breast reconstruction, considering factors like breast size, skin quality, and desired aesthetic outcomes.
  4. Discuss potential complications and outcomes, including scarring, asymmetry, and long-term results, with strategies for optimizing surgical success and patient satisfaction.
