Exit Strategy: How to Manage Through Difficult and Enduring Complications Sun, Sep 29 8:00-9:30 a.m. PDT

This panel features seasoned experts in multiple fields of plastic surgery including head and neck, breast, aesthetic, trunk, and lower extremity who will share their lessons learned in management of the most difficult complications they have encountered, including ones arising from surgeries their colleagues and they themselves have performed. Discussion will include not only the medical and surgical management, but also their approaches to mental and social support for the patient and caregivers, timing of care, use of colleagues from within and outside the plastic surgery field, communication, and legal support.

At the end of this activity participants will be able to:

  1. Learn strategies for effectively managing challenging and enduring complications in plastic surgery, including critical decision-making processes and communication techniques with patients.
    1. Gain insights into the importance of developing comprehensive exit strategies, including timely intervention, collaborative approaches, and patient-centered care, to navigate through complex surgical complications.
    2. Equip plastic surgeons with the skills needed to proactively address and manage complications, ensuring optimal patient outcomes and satisfaction throughout the continuum of care.
