Basics of Plastic Surgery Coding Course Sun, Sep 30 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.

This course offers a broad look at some of the most common plastic surgery procedures and how to properly code them. You will learn the basic codes and code families for various procedure categories, including; breast reconstruction, lesion excision, wound repair, hand procedures, and local and distant flap reconstruction. Complex coding combinations for various procedures performed together will be explained. Documentation requirements that allow for proper code selection, and tips to optimize reimbursement, and avoid insurance denials will be discussed.

At the end of this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Grasp basic coding principles for major groups of plastic surgical procedures
  2. Identify coding “gray areas” of clinical practice and how to choose appropriate CPT codes
  3. Describe how codes are created and valued by the current RVRBS system
  4. Discuss coding of complex procedures not described directly by the CPT manual
