Abdominal Wall Lecture and Cadaver Lab Simulcast Friday, September 28 Fri, Sep 28 6:15 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
The abdominal wall cadaver course will provide a hands on experience with the various highest level reconstructive techniques in a safe and effective manner.
Expert hernia and abdominal wall surgeons will be participating with this lab and provide guidance and assistance with abdominal wall reconstruction techniques. Focus on minimizing complications, proper mesh selection, techniques for closing large defects, maximizing successful outcomes, and techniques for safely navigating patients through recovery from these procedures. A thorough assessment of the anterior abdominal wall anatomy will be demonstrated.
The dissections will include anterior and posterior components separation. Various locations for mesh placement such as the recto-rectus, underlay, and only placements will be created and performed. There will be various mesh products available for handling and use to better understand the physical properties of each.
At the end of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Understand and be able to perform many of these complex reconstructive techniques.
- Develop familiarity with different methods and releases of AWR.
- Understand abdominal wall anatomy related to its reconstruction.
- Perform advanced component separation and mesh inset techniques.
- Recognize properly selected techniques to reconstruct various abdominal wall defects.
