Patient Selection in Gender Affirming Surgery Friday, September 20 Fri, Sep 20 4:30-5:30 p.m.
This course will emphasize the multidisciplinary nature of gender-affirming surgical care. This will include the role of the mental health professional, the primary care provider, and the surgeon.
Preoperative patient evaluation will be reviewed from the perspective of the mental health professional, primary care provider, and surgeon. Strategies to optimize surgical results will be reviewed through the perspective of understanding the diversity of gender identities and how they affect patient goals and expectations. In addition, special attention will be given to unique aspects of care in the adolescent population.
At the end of this activity participants will be able to:
- Discuss the multidisciplinary nature of care;
- Identify appropriate surgical candidates;
- Outline the steps for preoperative preparation of chest/breast and genital gender affirming surgery;
- Identify unique aspects of care in the adolescent population.
