The role of the plastic surgeon in reconstruction of spine and pelvic defects will be discussed. Topics will include indications for soft tissue versus bony reconstructions, as well as local/regional versus free tissue transfers.

At the end of this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify spinal and pelvic defects that benefit from plastic surgical reconstruction
  2. List the common soft tissue and bony reconstructive options for these defects.
  3. Discuss impediments to wound healing, and list options to overcome them.
