This panel will discuss the overall problem of opioid abuse and will specifically address strategies to decrease the use of opioid analgesics in favoe of non-opioid agents. Discussion will involve strategies for approrpiate use of opioids (amount and duration of treatment), alternatives to opioid analgesics, and utilization of multispecialty collaboration in the treatment of pain.
At the end of this activity, participants will be able to: 1. Understand the scope of he problem of opioid abuse. 2. Identify and understand the use of non-opioid analgesix agents. 3. Discuss strategies for implementing a multidisciplinary model for pain control in surgical patients.
