5K will benefit Chicagoland patients

Close the Loop 5K

The Close the Loop 5K race will take place from 6 to 9 a.m., Sunday Sept. 30, on the Chicago lakefront path on the east side of McCormick Place's Lakeside Center. Participants can easily access the race site by walking on the overhead walkway from McCormick Place and area hotels. The entire course is on the lakefront paths, and will heading north for first half of the race. Runners/walkers will enjoy a great view of beautiful Lake Michigan and Chicago's own Navy Pier. 

The race will start and finish at the McCormick Lakefront Trail. Other Chicago landmarks participants will be able to enjoy include:

  • Burnham Harbor
  • Soldier Field
  • Field Museum
  • Shedd Aquarium
  • Adler Planetarium (turnaround point on course)

​Packets will be available for pick-up starting at 6 a.m. The race start time is 7 a.m. The certified race map can be seen here.

Funds generated from the new Close the Loop 5K will be awarded to Chicagoland organizations through the Breast Reconstruction Awareness Campaign of The Plastic Surgery Foundation (PSF), the philanthropic arm of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

The Breast Reconstruction Campaign supports research projects focused on breast reconstruction and provides educational opportunities and financial assistance to organizations that support uninsured or under-insured women who choose to have breast reconstruction following a lumpectomy or mastectomy due to breast cancer.
